On a busy corner of a Newcastle suburb, established by older cottages and a small main street, an airbnb project was imagined as a turnkey escape that travelers could seek out for a variety leisure activities.  Celebrations could be had with ample rooms and generously-sized furnishings, large entertaining areas spilling out to a central courtyard; or getaways for a weekend surf to the much locally loved, Dudley Beach, a five minutes’ drive. The feeling of retreat was created by soft landscape selections and interior details that allow both daylight and privacy control.

The former building footprint, roofline and internal stud framing were carefully retained.  The kitchen, bathrooms and lounge spaces were reconfigured.  The new living area was opened up at the rear to the sky and maximise its north orientation.  A double garage, studio and laundry front the rear laneway with its own discreet street presence.
